Ashton Irwin has been the Drummer for 5 Seconds of Summer since 2011 and was the last to join after Michael proposed to him (to enter the band). He is the oldest at 22, and is the ‘father’ of the group. He is also known as a Kangaroo.
Luke Hemmings has been the lead vocalist and non-lead guitarist since 2001. He started the band by uploading cover videos to his YouTube channel Hemmo1996. He later got together with Michael and they started the band. He is currently nineteen and is the baby of the group. He is also known as a Penguin.
Michael Clifford has been the lead guitarist since 2011. He first got the idea after watching Luke’s cover and then approached him with said idea. He also named the band for no reason other than it sounded punk rock. He is currently 21 and also dropped out of school to tour. He is also known as a kitten.
Calum Hood has been the bassist since 2011 and was the third person to join, after Mikey and Luke. He is currently 20. Contrary to first impression he is not Asian but half Kiwi and Scottish. He dropped out of high school to tour with the band. He is also known as a puppy.
